theater with mr. fobarTheater is offered to all 6th and 7th graders, and 8th graders are able to elect theater as their MAGn'T class for the entire year. Throughout the year, there will be two productions -- comedic and dramatic -- in the winter and spring. Productions will be developed through after-school programs in the second and third trimester.

6th-7th |
Each 6th and 7th grader will take an introductory course in theater. Throughout the trimester, we will explore topics including public speaking through monologues, acting in small groups, world cultures through folk tales, setting and prop design, creative writing, and media analysis through film reviews. Theater is rooted in both communication skills and creativity. Students will have many opportunities to act, direct, design, and write through their performance based assessments.

8th |
Eighth graders who elect to take theater will have the opportunity to develop their skills throughout the entire school year. Students will begin then with personality inventory, identity development, and an introduction to social justice activism. After they have learned about what makes them who they are, they will be able to apply those skills to character development, acting in small and large groups, public speaking in formal and informal settings, as well as an understanding of how media and theater relate to their everyday life. Students do not need formal theater experience, or even a desire to be the star of a production -- we will explore how expansive and relatable theater is, through performance based assessments including directing/acting in their own commercials, and a live current events/news broadcast.
